The bar in the station

The bar in the station

Parisian style in London’s gothic gem

In the restored architectural splendour of London’s St Pancras Station, the Bar des Vins gives rail travellers a flavour of the Continent – whether they’re travelling to Nice or Nottingham.

With a brief from the client’s design team, we worked to create an interior that conveys the excitement of travel, the anticipation of meeting and the celebration of reunion. The resulting mix has proved a popular choice in this 76-seater venue.
Situated in the heart of the station, near to the departure and arrival points for the Eurostar services, Bar des Vins is a striking, visually important element of St Pancras’ beautiful interior.

Travellers are welcomed into an intelligent and witty amalgam of the traditional French bistro and an English gentleman’s club, with more than a nod to the station’s Victorian Gothic design and the romance of train travel.

The designers chose a range of interesting and unusual materials for the restaurant furniture – including a unique lava rock table, which Ambience Designs sourced from France. These expensive units had to be imported and fitted with great care and expertise.

Other contract furniture we sourced and supplied includes French-designed bentwood chairs, made of beech and sprayed in Pantone colours, including an eye-catching signature green to meet the client’s brand specifications, along with high stools and both low and dining tables.

Bar des Vins’ unique location and distinctive styling has helped it to become a favourite port of call for discerning travellers in search of simple food and an excellent glass of wine.

It may be only the coffee machines that produce steam in St Pancras Station these days, but the Bar des Vins uses a range of finishes, including stone, wood, faux leathers and metal, to bring a blend of old-world style and modern-day efficiency to its customers from both sides of the Channel.
